Site of the spring Continental Line and British Brigade event of 1998, this is the historic post-war farm of General Edward Hand, Adjutant General to Washington. Born December 31, 1744 in Clydruff, Ireland. Following medical training at Trinity College, Dublin, Hand was enlisted as Surgeon's Mate with the 18th Royal Irish Regiment of Foot and sent to garrison Fort Pitt in America. He resigned from British service in 1774, and came to Lancaster to practice medicine.
In July 1775, Hand joined the Continental Army as Lt. Colonel of the 1st Battalion of Pennsylvania Riflemen. He led troops at Boston, Long Island, White Plains and Trenton, becoming Adjutant General to Washington in 1781. At War's end Hand returned to Lancaster and entered politics as a Federalist. He served Congress, State General Assembly, and was elected Burgess of Lancaster. He moved to Rock Ford in 1794 where he died September 3, 1802.
Come celebrate the 50 th anniversary of the saving of Rock Ford Plantation. Event amenities include: straw, water, wood, and port-o-johns. Convenient re-enactor parking. Sutlers will be in attendance, along with a Saturday evening fall barn dance, as well as other on-site activities.
