Educational Opportunities at Rock Ford Plantation

Let Rock Ford be your students' door to the 18th century.....
They'll discover history “First Hand”!

At Rock Ford, students will become involved in a four-part program geared
to their grade level. In addition, prior to your visit we supply you with a free
pre-visit education packet so your students can get the
most out of their Rock Ford learning experience.

To book a tour, please contact our Museum

The program consists of:

Introduction in our restored barn

A costumed interpreter provides an interactive discussion on General Hand, his
military career, his family, and 18th century medicine.

18th Century Children's Clothing Demonstration

A few children may be chosen to don the types of clothing worn by children
living in the latter part of the 18th century.

Quill Pen Stations

We will explore reproduction period documents, focusing on the handwriting of their authors. Each student will be given the opportunity to practice writing in the 18th century way using a quill pen. Student work can be taken home as a souvenir.

Mansion House Tour

Students will explore 3 floors of the house where the Hands lived 200 years ago, with the guidance of a costumed interpreter. Primary source materials such as objects and documents will be used to bring the family “to life.”
